Money Matters exists to support Stoke-on-Trent’s most disadvantaged people to manage their money and debt issues, and support them in accessing benefits or other means of support. Our mission is to see a debt-free Stoke-on-Trent!
PURPOSE & ETHOS
OUR PURPOSE
OUR APPROACH
We work in partnership with the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank, which is a Trussell Trust Foodbank, to provide support to their guests.
We recognise that our clients need additional support at a time of crisis. We hold drop-in sessions at the Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank distribution centres, in order to make us easily accessible to foodbank guests. This means they don’t need to make yet another appointment and go to yet another place when they are going through a crisis.
Our approach, therefore, is to both address immediate need (e.g. dealing with a debt issue) but also to up-skill service users in order that they can be more confident in managing their money and successfully navigate the benefits system.
We:
- gather information about income, outgoings, debts, assets
- draw up a sustainable budget
- tailor information and advice on the best debt solutions available to you
- carry out benefit checks and give advice
- help with filing in benefit applications and form filling
- signpost to other complementary services
OUR PROMISE
Money Matters staff and volunteers are committed to working in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent Foodbank to provide their guests with impartial, high quality advice to support them through a particular financial crisis in their lives, whilst giving them the skills and knowledge to be better able to manage in the future.
